Hi all,

If I specify the ptp4l's "-S" option to enable the SoftWare Time
Stamp, but some network driver maybe *not* support the SoftWare time stamp
at all, such as igb driver. So under this condition, the "-S" option do not
make sense anymore.

So Is it necessary to add a checking into the ptp4l ?

It would be good to check if software timestamping is supported.. That can be done using the ethtool ioctl "get_ts_info"

I can code up a patch within a few days :)
